The facility is located 196km to the East of Melbourne in Corner Inlet. Shipping access to Bass Strait is available by channels that have been continuously used commercially since 1966 to service the Bass Strait offshore oil and gas field with project cargo, and support services to exploration, construction and production.
Port Anthony is the only Victorian shipping terminal east of Melbourne that caters for handling dry-bulk cargoes with particular focus on bulk commodities in various forms for which facilities in Melbourne are either unavailable or cost prohibitive.
Situated centrally in South Gippsland, The facility is linked to major road routes. The facility is developed as an open shipping terminal, catering for general and project cargoes as well as these bulk commodities.
The Owners of Port Anthony are committed to local and regional development through local employment and creation of opportunities for local communities.
Beginning in 1966 Esso Australia constructed what is known as the Barry Beach Marine Terminal (Located at Barry Point, Agnes Vic) and developed it into a large energy support base and throughout the time employed an estimated over 400 people. In 2001, the Anthony group took ownership of part of Exxon Mobil's facility and commenced construction of additional port facilities and operations and as such this southern area of Barry Point became known as Port Anthony Marine Terminal.
Port Anthony (PA) and the Anthony Group began approvals and subsequent construction of facilities in 2001 and now comprises of over 35 Quayside hectares of Freehold Special Use (SUZ) and Industrial 1 Zoned (INZ1) port land, in addition to surrounding foreshore space and crown leases and licenses (Government Crown Lands) bringing the overall land availability for the port to over 60 Hectares.
Port Anthony has always grown in strategic value due to alignment with State and Federal Energy Policy, and continued long term investment.
Located to the East of Melbourne, it is situated centrally in South Gippsland and is linked to major road routes. The facility was developed as an open access shipping terminal, and currently caters for all types of cargoes.
The Anthony Group as facility owners and operators have been part of the Gippsland community their entire lives, creating an unparalleled bond with the community. Port Anthony's owners and staff share a common belief with community, that being that any business proposal seeking to involve the Gippsland area in fact belongs to the community and should be treated as being their own project. The unique Gippsland community has earned its place in terms of experience with energy development, through its acceptance and support of the many Bass Strait projects and Mining activities in the area spanning decades.
We actively encourage both developers and the community to share and exchange these views on upcoming projects.
Enjoying a long-term presence in the area, whilst providing regional employment, the local community has formed part of the close support network which the Anthony Group and PA relies upon to conduct its business. PA has a strong historical social license - and credibility and support from the community for its future growth.
Through its operations from the facility - PA not only creates pathways to various international markets - but continues the area's long tradition of supporting Australia's energy production and critical infrastructure. Moreover, Port Anthony plans to expand its business by decarbonizing and repurposing the traditional energy supply base model - as it fulfills its role as an integral part of the modern green energy supply chain.
